Treat the cause: Boil comes and goes. The infection remains. The boil is only the end of the drainage tract (fistula). You should schedule with your dentist to treat the cause of the infection to ensure the boil will not coming back with more aggressive and virulent bacteria.

Hygiene: Having it pop was a good thing and is usually curative. Just make sure it doesn't get infected while healing. Use otc topical antibiotic twice daily to affected area.
