Define scarring ?: Episodic ear infections,including those that perforate the eardrum or leave scars on the drum can resolve with minimal effect on hearing. However, untreated or chronic ear infections in the era prior to antibiotics were well known to cause the delicate ear bones to become immobile significantly diminish hearing.Such changes could still occur depending on the scarring involved.
