Pain Specialist: He does not need to live in severe pain. Comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis may reveal findings that may improve with other treatments such as therapy and possibly injections or surgery. If these have already been tried and failed then there is likely a medication management program that will prove effective to help manage his pain.

Diagnose then Treat: Treatment of these type of problems requires a thorough history and physical examination, appropriate imaging, possibly MRI or ct.Depending on findings, physical therapy, trigger point injections, tens, spinal injections and surgery as a very last resort. Medication management can be effective after trying different doses and meds. Try a physical medicine/rehabilitation specialist if no better.
