Depends on signs: The large majority of disc problems can be treated without surgery. Relative rest, time, meds, PT, inversion tables, decompression, injections are nonsurgical options. The key is to treat the patient, not the imaging. Surgery is an option for those that have not seen relief of pain, weakness and/or numbness/tingling with nonsurgical treatment.
