Genital herpes: Usually sexually transmitted and has nothing to do with oral herpes ( cold sores )-HSV-1. Assuming that both you and your partner are monogamous, there is still an symptomatic carrier state which can lay dormant for years; however, if either partner has had sexual relations outside of their relationship, then all bets are off.Both/all partners need to be examined.
