A 19-year-old female asked:

so if a positive opk doesn't always mean an egg is released how can i (at home) know for sure an egg is released?

Strictly speaking: Only if you get pregnant. Ultrasound is much more sensitive, of course. Relax, if your cycles are regular and your opks clear, you are most likely ovulating on time.

A 19-year-old female asked:

A positive OPK means I have 24-36 hours until an egg is released? And once an egg is released it can survive for another 12-24 hours? Yes or no?

Yes, but maybe: Everything you stated is fundamentally correct, but 1) positive OPK doesn't guarantee egg will release, just that there's an lh surge, 2) there are frequent false or misleading readings on opk.
