Adjustment: A woman's body needs to adjust to the hormones in birth control pills, especially when starting new. During that adjustment period there can be more or less of breakthrough bleeding. Typically, this subsides after 2 or 3 cycles and either disappears completely or at least is bearable. If it isn't, switching to a birth control with different content in hormones can be tried.
