A member asked:

After exposure how long does it take for pink eye to develop in another person and how long is pink eye contagious?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on the cause: Pink eye or conjunctivitis can be cause by either bacteria or virus and spread to another person is usually by direct hand to face contact so may possibly avoided by good handwashing. Most viral causes are contagious at first sign of a cold and may persist for days to a week or longer. Bacterial causes are usually related to sinus infection and respond quickly to antibiotcs in 1-2 days.
