Not very much: The key issue is how much neurological damage it is causing by compressing nerve structures. That depends as much on exactly where it has occurred as it does on how big it is so no size in itself is not a critical issue.

Yes, however...: The larger the herniation the more pain and longer it takes to heal but even relatively small herniations can be very painful. The pain is often not just from the disc but muscles, tendons and ligaments. Just meds is not enough. I advise anti-inflammatory herbs like turmeric and boswellia. Physical therapy, muscle relaxants, acupuncture, mind-body techniques and micro-current may help.See comment:
