Depends on findings: If it is a small cholesteatoma that is easily removed it is possible that he may only require one surgery. More typically it is a more extensive cholesteatoma which requires more extensive removal and likely will necessitate a second look surgery with possible reconstruction of the ossicular chain (which are the bones that attach the eardrum to the inner ear – the malleus, Incus, and stapes).

Cholesteatoma: Surgery is the cure for this one. Unless the tumor is extensive, usually surgery provides definitive care.
