Acute flare up: Depending on type of arthritis, and without trauma, you are probably experiencing a arthritic flare up. Unfortunately, pain killers have no affect on the underlying disease and only covers up the pain. If you have a specialist (Rheumatoid), suggest calling. RICE protocol for treatment. Short term use of NSAIDs if not allergic could be helpful. If this happens often suggest further medical workup.
