Restless legs: One possibility, Restless leg syndrome, causes a sensation of discomfort and needing to move at night. It often interrupts sleep and can be difficult to treat. Causes include iron deficiency, renal disease, many other chronic problems and it can also occur for no identifiable reason. Some find exercise relieves the sensations well enough to permit sleep.
