Not Silly: Sepsis is the syndrome you get when you have bacteria in the blood. It is associated with low blood pressure, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, and shock. Septicemia is the technical word for bacteria in the blood. Might or might not lead to sepsis. It is not possible to have sepsis without septicemia, even if the offending organism (bacteria, virus, or fungus) cannot easily be found.
