Get checked.: Abnormal bleeding with an IUD in place may be a signal of a pelvic infection. Back pain can be a symptom of pelvic inflammatory disease. Also, if you happened to be pregnant (unlikely with an IUD), you may have a greater risk of a tubal or ectopic pregnancy. Since this can be dangerous to you, talk to your doctor. LGromko, MD
