Sounds like: a GANGLION (the protrusion of a tendon and its sheath) which can be intermittent (It does not "show" on routine xrays...an MRI might detect it if it becomes a problem (pain ,interference with ambulation) Hope this helps! Dr Z

Classic Symptoms: Hello, What you are describing could very well be a ganglion cyst. Think of it as a firm herniation of synovium, the fluid with them will occasionally engorge the cyst. usually located near a joint or tendon. Will do better of showing up on an Ultrasound or MRI. If it is a ganglion and there is no pain associated my advice would be to let it be.
