A member asked:

I have gerd and i get microaspiration after meals is it likely i'm going to get pulmonary fibrosis by 40?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pulmonary fibrosis: Pulmonary fibrosis can be of unknown cause or occur from inflammatory processes that have occurred in the lungs. I don't think that chronic gerd is a cause of true pulmonary fibrosis in the absence of recurrent bronchopneumonia. I think you should be under the care of a gastroenterologist in view of gerd to prevent esophageal damage, chronic cough for example.
