Yes: Aspiration of gastric contents can indeed cause pulmonary damage. I've mentioned elsewhere that the priniciple cause of GERD is H. pylori. H. pylori is the culprit that causes gastric ulcers and cancer. You can eradicate H. pylori and heal GERD and gastric (and esophageal) ulcers with Mastic gum, 1,000 mg per day for two weeks. You may need to continue with Mastic to prevent reinfection.

Yes: GERD- reflux disease can over time cause lung damage, especially if it combined with aspiration, ie reflux material entering the lungs
