Eye condition: Since ongoing, related to one side with pain, i would suggest seeing an eye specialist. This could be related to inflammation in the eye called iritis or elevated eye pressure that can lead to glaucoma. It should at least be ruled out if there is any associated redness and/or blurriness in vision.

Underlying other stu: In addition this can be a manifestation of anything on that side supplied by the fifth cranial nerve. This can be as simple as a bad tooth or something mkuch more serious including problems at the base of the brain. Start with your dentist and an ophthalmologist.
