Question not clear: Most herniated discs don't compression the cord. Spinal cord compression can be an emergency. Herniated discs are more likely to press a nerve root as it comes out of the spine. Did your surgeon say he/she wanted to do surgery and it would take 6 months to heal? Are you asking what to expect about the surgery? Or what to do about the disc?
