Hand pain: More description of the discomfort is needed in order to make a diagnosis. In the absence of injury, hand pain can be due to arthritis of a joint, tendonitis, overuse syndrome or carpal tunnel. If associated redness and swelling are present, soft tissue infection is a possible cause of the pain. See your physician if pain persists despite taking Tylenol or an anti-inflammatory like Advil or Aleve.
