A member asked:

My 4 month old has a small cut on his face. i used neosporin, which i had previously used on a boil on myself. can he get bacteremia from this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Bacteremia results from a significant site of infection entering the blood stream. A small cut on the face even in an infant, unless grossly infected will not cause problems. Just keeping the wound clean with soap and water should suffice. Adding the Neosporin is putting the icing on the cake.
