Mid-cycle spotting: At age 33, the drop in estrogen at the pre-ovulation time (a day or two prior to ovulation) is enough to cause slight bleeding, just like the bleeding seen at the onset of a "period". This is not abnormal, and may not occur every month, but from 33 on until menopause, many women have this accompanied by some "pre-menstrual " hormonal symptoms , and occasional spotting as you describe.
