Can ask: You will need to ask your doctor why this specific test was done. There may have been a reason in your unique circumstance. An HSV IGM would not provide information about exposure in the past. It is test looking for recent infection < 6 weeks ago. It is also not a particularly accurate test. An HSG IGG is the test for past exposure.
