Some antibiotics may: decrease the effectiveness of hormone based contraceptives, but it's a minor effect. B/C IUD's prevent pregnancy in multiple ways, the chance of pregnancy isn't increased by taking amoxicillin. Hope this helps. Dr. Anne

Probably not: Antibiotics like Amoxicillin do not seem to affect the contraceptive effectiveness of the copper IUD (ParaGard) or the hormonal IUDs like Mirena, Skyla or Liletta among the most reliable methods.Remember that IUDs are very effective in reducing your risks of pregnancy (99%)but they do not eliminate the possibility of a pregnancy completely. 1 to 5 out of 1000 IUD users may experience a pregnancy.
