Positive for herpes: A pap smear itself is not an accurate test for herpes. But apparently your doctor took a culture test for herpes simplex virus (HSV), at the same time s/he did the pap smear. Did you have blisters or sores? You have genital herpes, but can't tell which type, HSV1 or HSV2. The lab can do more testing to tell which one. Contact your doctor and make sure they do that; it's important to know the type.
