Yes: Injury of the chest wall or ribs can cause difficulty with taking deep breaths. As muscles need to contract and relax during breathing, this would cause pain on inspiration. Several more weeks: You may have just bruised the muscles and ribs of your chest wall and/or fractured a rib. The pain may persist for several more weeks. If the pain isn't relieved with OTC analgesics see your physician.
