Sometimes: "total body itching" is associated with early viral infections involving the liver ("Obstructive phase") Generalized SCABIES (Body lice) may also be a possibility. Some simple BLOOD TESTS and a Physical Exam will assist in determining if this is the case In any case you need to have this evaluated and a visit to your Primary Care Provider is indicated. Hope this helps! Dr Z

Not likely dangerous: Acute pruritus (itching < 6 wks) is common and multi-factorial. Most common allergy (food, drug, contact) and infectious (viral, scabies). HIV & cancer possible but very unlikely. Is there a rash, fever, joint pain? Try long lasting antihistamine daily & diphenhydramine nightly for a week or two. If not resolved see a physician.
