Possibly: There are actually types of psychosis that present with dementia but not typically until later in life. What we do know is that untreated psychosis can lead to progressive cognitive decline, although not necessarily dementia. What we often see with psychotic episodes, is patients not fully returning to their previous level of functioning. Worse with longer/more severe psychotic episodes.
