Inflammatory respons: Allergies involve antibodies and other chemicals such as histamine that are produced in response to a substance which cause acute inflammation. Signs include runny nose, watery eyes, itching, rash (hives), nausea and dizziness. In more serious cases, swelling of the face and tongue can develop as well as anaphylactic shock which requires urgent medical intervention.
