See below: Fast breathing means you are breathing faster than the normal rate, textbook is faster than 20. Shallow breathing means you are not taking as deep a breath as normal. By not breathing deep but breathing faster, you are maintaining the same minute ventilation.

Probably!: Most babies pause breathing for 15 to 20 seconds in the first few months of life. If the breathing resumes spontaneously and there is no change in color it s usually normal. Make sure you take him to his doctor for a ceck up.
