Asthma: Asthma can become worse for a few reasons. One is change in environment, such as cold, allergies, or if you contract an illness like a virus. If you are using your inhaler more frequently then usual, woken up at night with coughing or shortness of breath, see your doctor who may be able to prescribe you medication to better control your symptoms such as a longer acting inhaler or inhaled steroid.

Asthma varies: The degree of asthma varies from person to person. The things that trigger attacks will also vary. Most people will have periods of rather easy control mixed with harder to control times. If you are having difficulty you likely do not have an individualized plan that allows you to boost meds during hard times & decrease them when possible.Get back with your doc & work out such a plan.

Asthma exacerbations: Can be due to change of environmental factors that may increase triggering factors like change in weather or more pollution or could be due to increased stress or respiratory illness or need for better control like steroid inhalers. See your Internist or Pulmonologist for evaluation
