Not going blind!: Sounds like a sub-conjunctival hemorrhage. As long as the vision is unchanged and there is no pain, everything should be fine. This is due to a blood vessel leaking blood and is usually without cause. Sometimes straining or blood thinner can cause this. If it continues to happen, follow up with eye md. Could be episcleritis, use artificial tears.

Likely benign: Redness in eye can be many things. Typically if not associated with symptoms of vision loss, pain, or discharge, usually fairly benign. Pic shows a subconjunctival hemorrhage which is like a black and blue mark in the skin. A small blood vessel in eye burst (rubbing, on blood thinners, etc) and bled in a place in the eye that appears dramatic, but will resolve on its own with some time- days.
