It is generally not painful, but can be annoying when the tingling is severe. There are many conditions that can cause this condition, and the causes are generally linked to dysfunction of the sensory nerves.

Paraesthesia: This is usually noted as a pins/needle sensation. Can be benign or associated with pain and numbness. There is a multitude of causes usually related to small fiber nerves in the feet.
