Sort of: No there is no generic for Lexapro (escitalopram) (es-citalopram). However, citalopram is a combination of s-citalopram and d-citalopram. Only s-citlalopram is effective in treating depression/anxiety. So Lexapro (escitalopram) was created as just the s-version. That is why the starting dose for Lexapro (escitalopram) is 10mg and citalopram is 20mg. Some hospitals substitute citalopram for Lexapro (escitalopram) automatically because of the similarities.

Lexapro (escitalopram): Discuss with your doctor. Other options could be another ssri such as zoloft, an snri such as cymbalta, (duloxetine) or a different group such as wellbutrin.
