Memory is complex.: In assessing for memory defects, we divide memory into short term (3 minutes or less) and long term (15-to-20 minutes). Some clinicians vary these times and add a middle or "intermediate" range (3-to-20 minutes). There are standard tests that assess recall, after presenting standardized things to remember. Norms are generated by age. See a psychologist for testing if you have doubts.
