Oxygen-deprived: Ischemia (or ischaemia) means that a certain area is starved for oxygen. Like you can have an ischemic stroke, which means that particular part of your brain had a blood vessel that was blocked, was not able to supply blood to it, and the brain tissue died there because it had no oxygen. Ischemia is also more commonly used to describe heart muscle as an explanation for chest pain.
