There are: a number of blood tests which will rule out the more "serious" form of arthritis however in today's world I would guess that the most common cause for finger pain is TEXTING..(or using a computer for business or pleasure) HORMONE variations (in "Peri"=Menopause) can cause some finger joint SWELLING ! Hope this helps! Dr Z

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. Practice safe sex.

Be seen: Usually an exam and X-ray will determine if the pain you are having is from arthritis or not. Don't hesitate to be seen.

Arthritis is common: FIRST one needs X-rays and and evaluation, however If the joints feel tight and stiff as if making a fist feels like they are sponges that need to be squeezed out and as you tighten the fist it hurts a bit...Well that is often how early mildarthritis feels, especially in the am or if the hand is cold.

No doubt.: At 64 years of age, you can be pretty much be guaranteed, that you have some degree of arthritis. The issue is whether or not there are other factors also contributing to the pain. Depending on your medical history, it might be best to consult with your family physician before starting a self treatment program.

Hand Surgeon: I would make an appointment with a Hand Surgeon. They can xray your hand and evaluate you for tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis. http://centraljerseyhand.com
