Big toe pain: Sounds like an L4 radiculopathy on the side of toe pain. this is a nerve compression in your low back. you do not have to have back pain for this to occur. Numbness of toe tends to follow if untreated MRI of foot is also recommended if not performed. Good luck

I would consider: having an emg/ncv and seeing if you have a pinched or irritated nerve in your lower back.
