A member asked:

Is repeated startle response (i.e "jumping") harmful after i've had a concussion? my job involves sudden, loud sounds that often provoke startling.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

May provoke symptoms: Although probably not harmful, loud noises and repetitive brain stimuli such as bright lights, heavy technology use, prolonged reading can all make concussion symptoms worse and prolong recovery. If you have to work, consider ear plugs or headphones if possible to reduce the loud noises and startling. If can help, then join my care team & virtual practice at www.healthtap.com/dr-clarkeholmes
