Consider inner ear: Mri and ct rarely indicate the cause of dizziness or lightheadness. If this feeling is mostly with movement and much better when still then consider inner ear problem. Vng after good balance exam by ENT is best diagnostic study. Constant dizziness even when still is rarely inner ear especially if longer than 1-2 months. Suggest seeing neurootologist who specializes in diseases of hearing/balance.

Two groups....: Good answer by Dr. Loury. Basically, lightheadedness can be divided into two groups: 1) with solid physical findings; 2) without solid physical findings. The first group resolves mostly to ear or nervous system problems. The second group can be further evaluated as new and old. New means new problem>> many possibilities. Second group, chronic symptoms most commonly stress biology.
