Still probably viral: At four days it is still likely viral. Would treat symptoms for now. Irritability can be seen with ear infections especially when laying down. Consider seeing md if there is no improvement after 3-4 days or if symptoms worsen.

Needs to be seen: Your child may likely have a bacterial infection that has spread to the eyes and may need antibiotics, both oral and in the eyes. I would take him in to see a pediatrician very soon since its already been four days.
