Common response: sedation is typical after mixing alcohol with benadryl (diphenhydramine) or any 1st, or even 2nd, generation antihistamines. always be careful when mixing medications with alcohol and certainly never drive. emergent medical evaluation often is not necessary, but it could be wise to stay awake a couple hours following the ingestion of sedating medications to be sure the effects aren't too severe
