See answer: Depending on the length of the "scratch" sensation several possibilities come to mind. If just an inch or two more than likely due to a temporary disturbance of a local nerve branch to the skin. If the length is significantly longer it could be due to Shingles without a rash("zoster sine herpete")if the sensation corresponds to a thoracic dermatome.
