Yes, safe: Under the supervision of trained professionals, intradermal skin testing is safe. Allergen concentrations are relatively low, but should be selected appropriately and with thought. There is the small risk of having a systemic reaction, but reactions generally result only in local itching and swelling at the site of testing. Pain is what would be expected with skin insertion of a small needle.
