Congratulations!: Congratulations on your 4th child. At 36 weeks+ the cervix is still closed by, I hope, a OB MD exam. At term, 38+ weeks Mother Nature will begin her "magical" labor process by initially effacing the cervix prior to "opening the door". The old axiom is true in this case regarding labor initiation by Mother Nature- "if the apple is ripe it will fall off the tree".
