Not meant to close: The pericardial window is not meant to close. It should provide a path for fluid that is building up around the heart to drain into the thoracic or abdominal cavity, where large volumes can accumulate & be gradually reabsorbed without threatening life. If a window closes because of scarring or other problems, fluid can accumulate again. Even small amts of fluid around the heart cause big problems.
