Generally, yes. the: virus eventually clears up. However, the damage to the cells on the cervix in particular can be long-lasting and may eventually evolve in cervical cancer. Immunization against HPV protects against the most common strains that cause genital warts and the strains most likely to cause cervical cancer. But, b/c it doesn't protect against ALL strains, it's important to continue getting Pap testing.
