Yes.: This is normal 8 month old behavior. This is because developing stranger anxiety which is completely normal at his age and will eventually grow out this.

Good brain: By 6-9 mo a kid realizes there is a difference in the quality of attention he can get from primary caretakers vs strangers. This is seen in normal kids as stranger danger. It persists in some degree for years, but is manageable.
