D. Fragilis: Can cause active infection though patients may be asymptomatic. I will opt to treat if it is the only parasite found in the stool & if the patient has suggestive symptoms of some duration. Typical symptoms; usually intestinal; diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain etc. In any case your 6 yr old should be fully evaluated for this and other possible causes of mood and energy level changes.
