A member asked:

How can a patient with crohn's disease safely take the antibiotic cefprozil (cefzil) without experiencing horrible gi side effects?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gastroenterologist: This antibiotic can be safely taken by a patient with Crohn's disease, but it can't be guaranteed that a side effect like antibiotic induced diarrhea or superinfection like clostidium difficile won't ensue. Perhaps taking a probiotic with the Cefzil (cefprozil) will be protective, but your gastroenterologist is best qualified to answer this question and advise you. Maybe a different antibiotic is preferred.
